Savalen is situated close to The Dovrefjell mountains, with their two national parks Dovre and Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella, are located in Eastern Norway, close to other popular mountain areas like Rondane and Jotunheimen.
Not only is Dovrefjell an excellent arena for hiking, biking, and horseback riding – this is also where you can meet the mythical musk oxen. You might want to join a guided tour with either Dovre and Lesja aktiv or Oppdal Safari to increase your chances of spotting this beautiful beast.
117 km from Savalen you will find Grimsdalen.
Grimsdalen Landscape Conservation Area is a beautiful valley that stretches from Dovre in the west to Folldal in the east.
Grimsdalen is bordered by Dovre National Park on one side of the road and Rondane National Park on the other. Along the Grimsdalsvegen there is gravel and is just as suitable for an excursion by bicycle as a day trip by car or motorbike. The road is normally open from the beginning of June to the beginning of October, and is closed in winter

It is known for being a living museum that whispers centuries of history, all the way from the charming streets and down to the old copper mines, like the Olav's Mine.
Røros came into existence in 1644, after the first copper discovery in the area. Over the years, it became one of the most important mining towns in Norway.
